What an amazing response to the first ever Cars At Cairnglass event. There’s now over 100 registered vehicles and only a handful of spaces remain. Entry to the event is free, however you must pre-register your vehicle beforehand.

Please remember the event is fundraising for Men United SCIO and Shirley’s Space with raffles available on the day from both charities stands. The star prize shall be drawn at 2.45pm live at Cairnglass.

Food and a selection of tea/coffee and cold drinks will be on sale during the day and we are delighted to welcome The Green and Peters Ices.

Toilet facilities are provided on site.

*Please remember this is a private event which is not open to the general public. All registered cars and their occupants are welcome*

Working together to break the stigma that stops men from speaking about how they feel.At the core of suicide prevention is the determination to save lives.

That will never change, but the way in which our fantastic community engagement officers reach out, will vary between different communities.

We work with the lay of the land, and in the case of beautiful Aberdeenshire, this means understanding the role which mental health plays within farming communities.

We know that so many factors come into play, from financial worries to routinely working alone, generational stigma and prevailing myths about mental health in general.

That's why we were absolutely delighted to collaborate with NFU Scotland, and delivered an introduction to suicide prevention session at Thainstone.

Our community engagement officers, Brian and Mike, worked with farmers to not only share a life saving message, but to increase knowledge, myth bust and so much more.

There's already been some fantastic feedback, and we're so proud to have been involved.

Thank you to everyone who came along, including Sandy from Men United SCIO. When we work together, we can achieve great things.

It's a common misbelief that when someone dies by suicide, there's often only one contributing factor.

We know from analysing expert data, that in some cases it can sadly never become clear why someone completed suicide.

But we are also aware that there can be multiple contributing factors, which when combined, may have seemed insurmountable to an individual at the time.

We are all but one circumstance away from a chain of events, which could bring a person to crisis point.

A relationship breakdown, followed by issues with regular contact if children are involved, coupled with debt, feelings of isolation, an increasing dependency on alcohol, and then unemployment.

This situation is not unique, but that doesn't make it any less crippling- especially if an individual feels alone. That's why our Prevent Suicide app doesn't just contain details for local organisations, such as Men United SCIO and Mental Health Aberdeen.

We have a very thorough section for services which can help you get through some of the most difficult challenges in life, from bereavement to early parenthood, debt, family dynamics and more.

You are never alone, download the app today via the link in the comments to find out more.

Men United SCIO would like to say a massive thank you to Avril Cruickshank who kindly donated £600 to us at our recent Ladies Day.

Avril had a special birthday a few weeks ago and decided to raise money for 3 local charities.

Men United has been very fortunate that Avril has supported us from day one.

Thank you so much Avril pictured below with Sandy and Dianne Beagrie one of our trustees.

Poor mental health has terminal consequences. The suicide statistics amongst men are tragic, ever growing and desperately need reversing. To play our part in challenging the status quo we have established the following (non exhaustive) list of initiatives:

– weekly peer support groups (in person/ virtually)
– social networking opportunities for men to stay connected
– a mentoring programme to place volunteers alongside men who are going through a tough time
– workshops based on our HEX Model
