Awesome work these guys do and they delivered an amazing insight to Suicide prevention last night

Thank you. Liam Yule and Beth WallaceThere is a lot of sadness and uncertainty in the news at the moment and it impacts us all in different ways, because of this it is vitally important that conversations around mental health and suicide prevention continue. Two of the SAMH Suicide Prevention team spent yesterday evening delivering an Introduction to Suicide Prevention course to 16 members of the Men United SCIO community in Peterhead.

A fantastic and knowledgeable group and the support they offer each other and way they look out for each other and members of the community is incredible. Sandy and the team do some fantastic work and if you are a man in Aberdeenshire who feels they’re struggling or you’re worried about a man you know then we’d encourage you to reach out and learn more about what they do and how they can help you or a loved one.

Don’t man up, speak up.

“Mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of, but stigma and bias shame us all.”
Bill Clinton
Former US President

Poor mental health has terminal consequences. The suicide statistics amongst men are tragic, ever growing and desperately need reversing. To play our part in challenging the status quo we have established the following (non exhaustive) list of initiatives:

– weekly peer support groups (in person/ virtually)
– social networking opportunities for men to stay connected
– a mentoring programme to place volunteers alongside men who are going through a tough time
– workshops based on our HEX Model
